I wish to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Village of Manhattan and the Area's Web Site. The village of Manhattan is located in North Eastern Illinois approximately 40 miles south of Chicago. I hope this site will provide you with helpful information concerning our area.

Manhattan was incorporated in 1886. We are an old and established community. Having its roots in Farming, the village has grown over the last ten years to accommodate over 3200 people. Our forebears of German and Irish heritage give expression in our early spring festival Irish Fest.

One of the real advantages of living in Manhattan is the ease with which everyone works together to make our town better and better. The town's Caboose from the Norfolk and Western Railway shows the fruits of the Historical Society, Village, Township and Park Board working together to get something done. This web site is another testament to that, for through the Chamber of Commerce's efforts, we are able to give visitors a central place to learn about our area, and allow residents to find answers to their questions about what is going on in the area.

For residents and visitors alike, this web site assembles most of what you need to know about the Manhattan area.
